The Ghana Armed Forces has recently announced the release of 150 out of 184 suspects arrested in Ashaiman during swoop on Tuesday, 7th March, 2023.
The military on Tuesday night invaded Ashaiman town to brutalize the residents over alleged killing of a young military man. The military men took on the civilians to avenge the murder of their colleague, Sherif.
However, 184 residents were captured into the custody of the military as suspects after brutalizing the whole town.
In videos that gone viral on social media, the residents could be seen running helter skelter screaming for their safety. Other footages also showed some residents that were hurt badly at their backs, necks and other part of the body joints.
Those were arrested were made to roll in a dirty waters, muds and were flogged as well.
On 9th March, 2023, the MP for Ashaiman municipal confirmed 150 out 184 victims were released by the military.
The legislature further opined that he will push till all arrested residents are freed.
However, the Armed Forces in a statement on Wednesday, March 8, justified the brutalities stating that the raid was not to avenge the death of the soldier but to fish out the perpetrators of the crime.
