Nananom of Sefwi -Bekwai Traditional Area in the Sefwi-Wiawso Municipality of the Western North Region have described the place as peaceful despite the recent ritual killings in the area.
One Mattha Tetteh was killed in a cold blood by suspected criminals per the Ghana Police Service report.
According to the chiefs, the undeniable fact that the land of Sefwi-Bekwai has suffered a great deal of humiliation for the past four decades and more with the unfortunate stigmatization of ritual murders for which matter, they are working hand in hand with the police to bring the perpetrators to book.
‘We admit that the people are with us, we would not under any circumstance run away from this fact, of course, we take it or we leave it, there could be instances where non-citizens of the land may get involved, but such individuals are able to succeed because it seems, the tree that produces the core elements is deep-rooted in our soil.
‘It is, for this reason, Nananom have been trying as much as possible to work hand in hand with the security agencies over the period to fight at all times without a foot off the accelerator to uproot any suspected ‘POISONOUS TREE’ with the likelihood and potency to producing such dubious individuals in our traditional area’, a release to Mynewsgh.com from the Sefwi-Bekwai Traditional Council, signed by Nana Kwadwo Twum II, the Krontihene and Acting President of the Council said.
Nana Kwadwo Twum II also recounted similar incidents chiefs in the area have helped police deal with persons behind such criminal activities.
After the unfortunate incident of the later parts of the 1980s, i.e. the famous ‘KOFI KYINTO RITUAL MURDER’, the land became safe for all as far as ritual murders were concerned until that one which happened at Baakokrom on the land of Sefwi Bekwai in 2009.
‘Nananom of the Traditional Area, led by our late Omanhene, Odeneho Gyapong Ababio, took the bull by the horn to fight this canker with all the force we possessed and could marshall. And it is on record that, the efforts of Nananom in collaboration with the Security agencies over years yielded positive results in preventing such occurrences.
‘With the support of the government through the various security forces and in collaboration with Nananom, we would not hear about these nefarious activities in our land until this current one which is stirring our distraught and disdainful faces as a people.’, he pointed out.
‘All these historical facts point to one logical conclusion, that the fight against those ‘BLOOD THIRSTY’ elements should under no circumstances be ever relapsed’ the acting President of the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council, pointed out.
